Matthew W Dunlop

Computer Engineering


Matthew Dunlop is a Ph.D. candidate at Virginia Tech in Computer Engineering.  The focus of his research is in network security.  Matthew is also an active duty lieutenant colonel in the United States Army with 18 years of service.  Prior to Virginia Tech, Matthew was an assistant professor in computer science at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he taught undergraduate classes and advised undergraduate research.  Matthew also served as a computer science faculty mentor and curriculum developer at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan.  Matthew worked as a network engineer for the Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center.  In that capacity, he developed and accredited a classified network for simulations and worked on simulations models.  Other positions in the Army include Company Commander, Company Executive Officer, Platoon Leader, Assistant Brigade Engineer, and Brigade Plans Officer.  Matthew belongs to the honor societies of Phi Kappa Phi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Upsilon Pi Epsilon.  He is also a member of IEEE.  Matthew has completed internships at the National Security Agency and Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center.  Matthew holds a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, a M.S. in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Gonzaga University.
